Canva brings brand-safe design generation into ChatGPT

Fri, 6th Feb 2026

Canva has added on-brand design generation to ChatGPT, letting users create editable Canva designs inside the chatbot while automatically applying their organisation's Brand Kit settings.

The integration uses Canva's Model Context Protocol server, which links AI assistants to Canva's design tools and brand controls. Users can generate designs that pull in approved logos, colours, fonts, and other elements stored in Canva Brand Kits. The resulting files open in Canva for further editing.

Canva framed the move as part of a broader effort to position its tools as a visual layer across widely used AI assistants. It rolled out a similar integration with Anthropic's Claude last week and also referenced connected workflows with Microsoft Copilot through its MCP server.

Inside ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, Canva's connector lets users describe a design in natural language and generate a Canva asset that matches brand settings. Users can go from prompt to ready-to-edit design in a few clicks, without switching tools during early drafts.

The feature is aimed at teams producing marketing, communications, and internal content at higher volumes. It targets a common problem: AI-generated visuals that don't match brand guidelines and require manual rework.

The most common output type generated through Canva's AI connectors so far is presentations, followed by social posts, posters, and infographics. Canva has been investing heavily in presentation creation and editing as it competes for workplace use cases alongside productivity suites and collaboration tools.

Connector uptake

More than 3.7 million users have accessed Canva's MCP server, and users have accessed or created more than 12 million designs via connected AI assistants.

Canva also pointed to growing referral traffic from large language models. It said Canva is among the top ten most-referred destinations from LLMs, citing Similarweb rankings, and that traffic from MCP connectors is up 60% month on month.

The figures suggest a significant share of early demand is coming from users who start work in a conversational interface and then shift to specialist tools to finish. For Canva, integrations with major AI assistants add another distribution channel alongside its web and mobile apps.

How it works

Brand Kits are central to Canva's pitch for businesses. They store brand assets and rules-such as colour palettes and fonts-plus logos and other elements that teams can reuse across templates and formats. The ChatGPT integration applies these elements to generated designs without extra manual steps.

Canva also highlighted a "Live Design Preview" inside ChatGPT through the Canva app, which lets users interact with and refine a design without leaving the chat interface before continuing edits in Canva.

Another feature is a "Guided Presentation Builder", which structures a presentation outline in the AI assistant and then generates a design in the brand style. Canva did not detail limitations, governance controls, or how organisations can manage access across multiple Brand Kits in shared ChatGPT environments.

Company positions

Canva said its MCP server connects AI assistants to Canva's design system. It also referenced its Canva Design Model, which it said focuses on generating editable design outputs, and Canva AI, which it described as a design copilot.

It said the combination allows designs created through an AI assistant to remain editable in Canva, rather than becoming static image files.

Anwar Haneef, GM and Head of Ecosystem at Canva, said the company sees brand identity as a missing element in AI-generated creative work.

"The soul of a brand is visual identity, yet it has been the missing puzzle piece in how AI creates," said Anwar Haneef. "Today, we're bridging that gap by bringing our design expertise to the daily tools used by millions. Whether you are in ChatGPT or Claude, Canva acts as the connective tissue that quickly turns a text conversation into beautiful brand-aligned visuals. This marks a significant leap in how LLMs and design models can bring creativity and productivity closer than ever."

Early users include eXp Realty, which said it expects the integration to shorten turnaround times for branded materials created by agents and staff.

"We believe an agent's personal brand is their X-Factor; it's the superpower that builds trust before they even enter the room," said Wendy Forsythe, Chief Marketing Officer at eXp Realty. "This integration is a game-changer because it allows agents to scale that superpower without diluting it. By accessing Canva Brand Kits within ChatGPT, our agents can move from a text prompt to a fully branded visual in seconds. Ultimately, this frees our agents to spend less time formatting and more time connecting, ensuring their X-Factor shines through in every digital interaction."
